Business of the Week: Tom Thumb

August 3, 2021 | Deep Ellum Team

Those who have been patrons or residents of Deep Ellum for any point in time can remember when Deep Ellum didn’t have a grocery store. It’s easy to remember, because the first one didn’t open until Fall 2020! Our Business of the Week, Tom Thumb, made many Deep Ellum dwellers happy when they opened their full-service grocery store last fall.

A brand familiar to every Dallasite, Tom Thumb has been a grocery staple around the metroplex for decades. Back in 1948, when supermarkets were first gaining popularity, two friends in Dallas decided to embark on their own grocery endeavor by purchasing a small local chain and brought the eponymous store to local markets. Tom Thumb’s decades of growth can be attributed to their attitude to always serve as a neighborhood store, which is apparent in their launch into Deep Ellum.

As Deep Ellum has grown into a home for more residents than ever before, certain amenities have become more necessary than ever before, such as a nearby grocery store. Deep Ellum’s Tom Thumb has everything local residents could ever need such as online pick-up, a large parking garage, hot meals, a bakery & deli, and everything in between.
