FAQ
Who sponsors deepellumtexas.com?
The Deep Ellum Community Association (DECA) runs deepellumtexas as a neighborhood website uniting all of Deep Ellum under one umbrella. The Deep Ellum Foundation (DEF) provided initial funding for the site. Content is provided by DECA, DEF, and the Deep Ellum Enrichment Project (DEEP), as well as many neighborhood volunteers.
How can I find out more about various neighborhood groups?
DECA is a membership-based 501(c)(4) non-profit representing Deep Ellum residents, property owners, businesses, and anyone who loves Deep Ellum. DECA's mission is to promote Deep Ellum as an urban, sustainable walking neighborhood with an organically grown culture of creativity. The Deep Ellum Sustainability Council is a DECA project to help move the neighborhood in a more sustainable direction.
DEF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation composed of Deep Ellum property owners organized to administer the Public Improvement District Funds on behalf of Deep Ellum.
DEEP is not a formal organization, but an informal group of people who get together on Tuesday's nights to meet others and promote Deep Ellum businesses, history, and culture, and also runs the spring and fall Artwalk.
Click on the links at the bottom of the home page for more information about each group.
How can I get involved in the neighborhood?
First, sign up for the email list on the home page to get periodic emails. If you are on Facebook, subscribe to the Deep Ellum Facebook page (www.facebook.com/deepellum). This will give you instant notification about all things Deep Ellum. DECA meets the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30pm at 2630 Commerce Street and welcomes visitors. DEEP meets many Tuesday evenings at various locations around the neighborhood and is a great way to meet people informally. You can find out about weekly DEEP meetings on the Facebook page.
How can I promote Deep Ellum events or publicize news about Deep Ellum?
Send an email to events@deepellumtexas.com and we will post the event to the appropriate place or get you directed to the right place.
I have heard that I can save money on electricity (residential or commercial) and help Deep Ellum at the same time. How does this work?
DECA has made arrangements with PowerBrokers/Current Energy where PowerBrokers will seek out and find below market rates for commercial and residential renewable electricity. Any commercial or residential electiricity user in the state of Texas can get the lower rate, and a portion of the proceeds are donated by PowerBrokers back to DECA and Deep Ellum. Some Deep Ellum businesses have already saved over $1000 a month in their electrical bills. For more information, contact electricity@deepellumtexas.com.
