Community Intro

Since its inception in 1873, Deep Ellum has been a diverse, urban, walking neighborhood - organically grown, not master-planned.  No one here cares what you look like, how you dress, or what you drive.  It is a neighborhood based on a culture of creativity and it shows everywhere you look.

If you live in Deep Ellum, you can walk to dozens of restaurants, galleries, live music venues, neighborhood pubs and businesses of all types. You can walk to a butcher shop, a cheese maker, a bakery, and a farmers market.  You can hit the Bark Park to walk your dog and meet friends or just take a walking mural tour of Deep Ellum's many murals and public art.  And along the way, you are likely to see other neighborhood friends doing their thing, or getting involved in countless community projects like painting murals, building urban gardens, going on community bike rides, etc.

If for some reason you have to leave the neighborhood, we have two DART stations on our doorstep ready to get you there and back.

Deep Ellum also has a vibrant patchwork of community organizations working hard to make things even better.  But the march of acronyms can get a little confusing.  We try to catalog them here so you can find out more about each and figure out where and how you can get involved, along with information on various community projects, community garden and sustainability efforts, and our fabulous Bark Park.
